Commissioned by The William Breman Jewish Home, my concept and copyrighted designs for the Jewish Celebrations quilt’s 15 blocks and border were sewn with applique and embroidery by many talented women of the metro Atlanta Jewish community. To see the Jewish holidays all together as one permanent installation, while having a Torah surrounded by the four seasons placed as the quilt’s central focal point, made a strong statement about the beauty and significance of Judaism as a religion that commands us to remember Jewish history and events throughout the year. In addition to consulting often with rabbis, teachers, librarians or using the internet, I also recalled the warm memories of joyful ways my family celebrated the Jewish calendar.
